Vernazza at Night
Oil on Canvas 20 x 30 Inches $3500 Framed
I had the great pleasure of painting in Vernazza, Italy for a full week. This is one of 5 fishing villages that comprise the Cinque Terre (Five Lands) along the Ligurian Sea, up near the hip on the boot-shape of Italy, about 50 miles south of Columbus' home port of Genoa. Vernazza has a true, small fishing village feel about it, complete with ruins of a castle dating to the middle ages and colorful, small fishing boats moored in the harbor of its blue-green Mediterranean waters. Delicious seafood, spectacular views and a slower pace of life make this one of my favorite spots.
This scene was taken from high above town with a commanding view, shortly before dawn. The village seems aglow, almost on fire against a cobalt blue sea and sky. I enjoy the excitement these colors create against each other.
