This was a breathtaking view just outside the walled fortress of Montalcino, known for its famous Brunello red wine. The rolling hills of Tuscany with endless vineyards and olive groves recede into infinity. It was about 5 o'clock, and the evening mist was starting to settle in the distant valleys. The vineyard in the foreground was warmly lit by the setting sun, while its villa was obscured by the surrounding trees. This was probably my favorite memory of the spectacular Tuscan countryside. What a panorama! What a place to paint. This is Tuscany!
