Morning Mist on the James

In the fall, the temperature of the water in the river at dawn is often warmer than the cooler air above it, causing the mist to evaporate up from the surface. As the golden sun breaks over the trees, it illuminates the mist in a kaleidoscope of colors. I worked-up this studio painting from a small field study I did on site.
