Morning in Lodore Canyon

This section of the Green River runs through an area in northwestern Colorado and northeastern Utah called the Lodore Canyon, known for its high, red rock canyon walls. Each morning sunlight cascades slowly down the western canyon walls in a dramatic opening act of dawn. And in the evening, the process reverses as the shadows climb the eastern walls until dusk overtakes the entire canyon. It's an awesome sight to see firsthand. I visited here on a 5 day rafting trip down 47 miles of the Green River. This is the studio painting I created from the field study below...
