I began this painting as a plein air painting (on-site) but had to finish it back in my studio due to the rain, wind and high surf threatening to wash me off the dock! There were several days of wind and high seas -- such conditions require the village men to row their colorful boats in from their moorings to safety and haul them up into the town piazza (square), where they park them side by side and end to end wherever possible, even along the main walkways and road through town. They make a colorful sight, whether in the water or up on dry land.
