This shows Vernazza's beauty as well as its strategic location as a small protected port. The castle tower is out of view to the left, but here we see the center of the village as viewed from the hiking trail above town. The beautiful blue-green waters of the Ligurian Sea leave the harbor breakwater and stretch out to the distant mountains. Monterosso al Mare is the next town up on the horizon. Terraced vineyards wrap around the mountainsides on the right. The colorful pastel buildings of Vernazza intersecting at different planes form a mosaic of abstract designs in the foreground, unified by the ever-present green shutters in the windows. A breathtaking sight!
