Each Spring, the Italian Garden in Maymont Park bursts into a myriad of colors and fragrances from a dazzling array of tulips unlike few other gardens in the city of Richmond. Situated on the banks of the James River in the 100-acre Victorian country estate of Maymont, the Italian Garden provides a refreshing escape from modern city life and a glimpse into the Gilded Age of America’s past.
Completed in 1910 by the original residents of Maymont, Major and Mrs. James H. Dooley, the Italian Garden added the classical style of a formal, old world garden to their opulent, new world estate. The geometric flower beds intersected by granite-stone paths and bordered by a granite colonnade supporting a trellis covered with wisteria and ending in a copper-domed gazebo, all lend to create a storybook setting for a family stroll or an idyllic outdoor wedding.
This limited edition print of the garden has been reproduced from an original oil painting by Joseph E. Burrough, III. Each print in this edition has been reproduced on acid-free paper using permanent inks and is personally signed and numbered by the artist.
