" Snake River Study” (Near Schwabacher Road) May 23, 2005
This view is of Snake River in the foreground and Mount Moran behind it in the distance. (No, I didn't see any snakes. Probably got it's name from the meandering course it takes.) This was my first day painting on-site in the Tetons. "It doesn’t get much better than this." If you follow the river into the distance you’ll notice a beaverdam that has slowed this branch of Snake River into a trickling stream. From here it is 10 miles to the peak of Mount Moran in the distance. It’s amazing how close these mountains look when they really aren’t. This was a breezy day with clouds whipping over the mountains sometimes completely hiding the peaks. The clouds were constantly casting shadows on the mountains and snow fields making my job a real challenge. Although it was late May, there was plenty of snow still on the mountains as the temps got down to 31º each night.
