Standing prominently on the horizon, the State Capitol is joined by tall church steeples punctuating the skyline. Below it is the U.S. Customs House, now the center section of the Federal Courthouse on Main Street. The great Gallego Flour Mill, one of the largest in the world, rises up on the right and glows with nighttime commerce on the Great Turning Basin of the Kanawha Canal. Chimney smoke gently billows from the residences and warehouses in Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom. To the left, Tredegar Iron Works and the Virginia State Armory are going full blast. On Gambles Hill above them, Pratt’s Castle stands eerily against a foreboding, nocturnal sky.

The “Skyline of Richmond, Circa 1858” has been released as a limited edition print series of 950 signed and numbered standard prints and 75 signed, numbered and remarqued Artist Proofs produced from an original oil painting depicting a unique view of the quaint Richmond skyline from years long lost. It shares the identical viewpoint as its companion print, the modern day “Skyline of Richmond.”
