“Oxbow Bend Study” Grand Teton National Park, May 25, 2005
About a mile away from Willow Flats is a unique turn in the Snake River that resembles an oxbow, hence it's name. It’s a beautiful view with sagebrush in the foreground, the mountains reflected in the river and a variety of colors in the tree lines and grasses. If I have my mountains right, that’s Grand Teton on the far left, Mount Owen and Teewinot close together on the mid-left and Mount St. John to the right of center. I painted this with my two plein air compadres Bill Smith (William G. Smith) and Amy Graff. Here they are hard at work on the same scene. Bill was kind to do all the driving each day to the various sites and was a great "tour guide/park ranger" since he lives in Jackson Hole. We had a lot of fun chasing down bison and elk.
