• Completed a couple of commissions for two very happy clients.

Fall 2009
• Marketing, Marketing . . . brochures, flyers, CDs! Worked on a number of studio paintings and did a little plein air painting in the beautiful Fall weather. I did a small snow scene for this year's Christmas card which I then entered in the National Oil Painters of America competition.

Summer 2009 News
• In late July, I went on a private 47- mile rafting trip down the Green River in Colorado and Utah. This is a scenic river running through the heart of Dinosaur National Monument country. It was an incredible journey through the Lodore Canyons with 900 ft. high walls on either side and Class IV rapids in the river. It was a five-day camping trip I took countless reference photos and was actually able to paint on-site two plein air oil paintings. Since getting back, I've enlarged these scenes into larger, more detailed studio paintings.

• Since I was already out west, I then flew up to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to paint in the Tetons with my artist buddy Bill Smith for a few days. We used his inflatable pontoon rafts to do a trip of our own down the Snake River for 15 miles, painting once on a rock shoal looking back to the Tetons. What a gorgeous day! Many thanks to his sweet wife Jolene for her delicious meals and "raft-shuttling" services. We painted on the Jackson Land Company Ranch outside of Jackson, as well as on the banks of the Snake River. The final day we crossed Jenny Lake and hiked up into the Tetons to Hidden Falls, where we set up and painted. Lots of new reference photos from this trip as well.

Winter 2009 News
• Commissions, commissions! Last December, I painted a family portrait (including the dog). Since January, I've painted 5 commissioned paintings. Two are of the Tetons, one of Richmond's arched railroad bridge over the James, one large painting (and it's smaller study) of Maroon Bells in Colorado.

Autumn 2008 News
I spent a couple of beautiful days last autumn painting plein air paintings of barns and ponds in the countryside of Virginia.

Summer 2008 News
In June 2008, I traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to paint with my good friend Bill Smith, along with another accomplished artist John Taft who came up from Colorado to join us. We painted several plein air oil paintings in Grand Teton National Park and rafted 8 miles down the Snake River under the awesome Tetons. Truly inspiring. Click here to see those paintings and read my narrative of that trip.

• Two of my paintings were accepted into the 2007 Paint America 2ndMini50 competition.

Autumn 2007 News
• In the Fall of 2007, I spent two wonderful weeks painting in Italy: the first week on the gorgeous Italian Riviera in the Cinque Terre region where I based out of the fishing village of Vernazza attending a workshop led by Scott Burdick. Colorful boats, buildings and people. Then the second week, I rented a small car and ventured alone into the beautiful countryside and hill towns of Tuscany: visiting scenic places like Montalcino, Pienza, Cortona, Lucca, Volterra, and Florence! Italy really is as scenic and beautiful as they say. Check out my Italy Trip Page to see the smaller plein air paintings done on that trip or the larger studio works since I've returned. I've been so busy with larger paintings of Cinque Terre that I have yet to begin any studio paintings of Tuscany! Can't wait to start. - August 29, 2008
