"Manarola Harbor"
Cinque Terre, Italy Plein Air: 9/27/07 Oil on Canvas Panel 16" X 12" $ 1100 Framed |

| Manarola is one of the 5 (cinque) fishing villages along the Italian Riviera. Most are built into the cliffs. You can see one pink house high up on the upper left in this painting. To the American eye, these are unusual structures built right into the cliffsides and clustered and nestled on top of each other down into a valley forming the village (on my extreme left in this view). This was a windy day and therefore high seas prevailed, so the harbor was empty of boats as the villagers had pulled them out of the water and up into the town streets and piazzas (squares) for safety. Notice the stone steps in the center distance of the breakwater and the relatively enormous surf crashing against the rocks. | |||||||||||||
