This plein air oil was painted on-site at Potlatch #2 campsite looking downriver at sunrise in the Lodore Canyon on the Green River in Colorado and was the basis for the studio painting of the same name. The light would hit the canyon cliffs on the right and gradually cascade down the canyon walls. This oil survived our raft getting flooded when pinned on a rock. Much of our gear had to be cut loose from the raft and floated downriver in their drybags to be retrieved a half-mile or more below! It survived the ordeal.
